Kingsgrove is a stunning beachfront holiday home in South Devon, with room for nine. A king size room on each floor, a twin upstairs and a bunk room for the children.
Fifty yards down the steps and you’re onto sandy Mill Bay. You don’t need to carry anything down, because the chairs, the windbreaks and the barbecue are all already there in your own boathouse.
Love soaking in the evening sun? As Salcombe loses the sun by the middle of the afternoon, here it stays on the terrace and the sand right until sunset.

into leisurely afternoons
Kingsgrove is perfect for the sort of holiday where nobody is in a hurry. Crab bought off the quay that morning, bread still warm from the bakery, and everybody talking over each other while somebody tops up the glasses.
The open plan kitchen and dining area sit upstairs to make the most of the view, with the estuary filling the window above the sink and French doors onto the balcony. The dining table extends for eating all together.
A double oven, dishwasher, coffee machine and a fully equipped kitchen, so all you need to bring is the food. Two Weber barbecues outside, (and one in the boathouse) and a patio heater for when the evening turns cool.
Sun until bedtime
Salcombe falls into shadow by the mid afternoon. Over here the sun comes round and stays with you, low over the water and straight onto the terrace.
By four the beach begins to empty as families queue for the ferry home. The wind drops, the estuary turns gold and the whole bay goes quiet.
That is the hour to open something cold and light the barbecue. Eat outside as the last boats come in, let the children stay on the sand a little longer than they should, and watch the light turn pink over the water.
There is a patio heater for when the evening cools, so you can sit out well into October.
The coast path starts
at the end of the garden
Out of the gate and you are straight onto the South West Coast Path.
A really popular cliff walk is to Gara Rock, with Sunny Cove to swim in on the way and lunch at the far end. Come back down through the valley with the light going and you will have walked four miles without noticing.
Go further and you reach East Prawle and the Pigs Nose, the most southerly pub in Devon. Or take the ferry across and climb to Snapes Point instead, with the whole estuary laid out below you.
What’s more, dogs are welcome on all of it.
