East Portlemouth Beaches – Quiet, Sandy, and Unspoiled
The East Portlemouth coastline features a series of connected sandy beaches, ideal for swimming, picnics, paddle-boarding, or simply relaxing in peace away from the crowds. From north to south, the main beaches are:
- Fisherman’s Cove – a peaceful, sheltered spot ideal for paddling
- Smalls Cove – great for families, sunbathing and launching paddle-boards
- Mill Bay – the largest and most accessible beach, located directly below Kingsgrove and home to our private boathouse
All are connected by a scenic stretch of the South West Coast Path, offering breathtaking views across the estuary and out to sea.

Local Tip: The Old Stable Café
Just a few minutes’ walk from Kingsgrove, at the top of the passenger ferry steps, you’ll find The Old Stable Café – a local favourite.
This seasonal, dog-friendly café serves:
  • Excellent locally roasted coffee
  • Homemade cakes and bakes
  • Ice creams and light lunches
  • Refreshing cold drinks — perfect after a beach walk or ferry ride
It's a great spot to grab a coffee while waiting for the passenger ferry across to Salcombe, or to relax in the sun with a snack and enjoy the view.
